Tribute to Benny on his 3rd death Anniversary
Dear Benito and Betty,
Thank you for offering this poignant and thoughtful gift of a tribute to my beloved Benny, especially on his 3rd death Anniversary, thus bringing some very emotive memories of my life with him, especially his music which was really the foundation of our mutual love and respect over the years. I appreciate it very much.
I now fully understand your kind reasoning behind this tribute, to add his music and videos of him, to complete the story of The Shiftars already published by Cyprian Fernandes first in 2018 and replicated again on Benny’s demise in 2021 as a tribute to him, followed by my personal tribute in 2022 on our defunct 50th Wedding Anniversary ( both of which you have included in this tribute for those who have not read it). As per your gentle, kind persuasion and your iconic line "We must continue to keep our good old music live", I accept your gracious gift of memories and tributes.
Last year I was fortunate to be in Toronto to toast his life with a memorial on his 2nd death Anniversary with 2 of band mates, Polly & Rudi, though Dominic unfortunately couldn't make it and close friends. Our friend Basil D'souza created a video, with our photos and the iconic "our special song" – “Strangers in the night" sung by my Benny! This song was a dedication from him to me from our initial meeting till the end, and with sadness, I had them play his recording when he was cremated. I also hope you'll enjoy seeing a clip of my Benny's antics with the belly dancer ( a different dimension to him!) at our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations in 1997.
Based on AM Crusade and Calibre blogs, I am now sharing some visual features from reunions after 23 years of leaving Mombasa, to complete the whole package of giving a taste, of their music, so to speak, without saturating cyberspace, as the integrity and dignity of the band is paramount to uphold their stature.
Whilst I have a music tape of Hombre, unfortunately the sound quality is distorted with age and inept recording, so on advice of Denzyl, only sharing the few photos shared by him.
So once again I thank you for your gift of memories of my beloved Benny as a final tribute to his contribution to music through the 2 bands The Shiftars and Hombre, something for me to treasure, by simply clicking the link and perhaps share with others.

Thank you for your kind message which certainly brings back sad memories of a great friend. I first met Benny, Basil, Connie, Lama, Austin and other members of the Shiftars in Mombasa when I often visited my sister Yvette in Mombasa. (I often followed the band at gigs whilst I was enjoying a holiday break and later knew Benny well in the UK). I was pleased to learn that my sister Yvette who was then connected to the Mombasa Goan Institute often booked 'The Shiftars' for social functions.
Your loving husband Benny Mascarenhas will always be remembered as a great friendly musician, guitarist/singer who played with many musicians and bands.
Thank you for kindly sharing your information you professionally produced giving a full account of Benny's life and all his talents as a talented musician. You are welcome to send more updates if you wish.

I was well aware your Benny was a very good close friend of my best friend Denzyl Sequeira who also came from Mombasa Kenya, not forgetting to mention Basil De Souza, and I was touched by the lovely tribute Denzyl wrote and as such have attached a special link to be viewed on this blog spot.
